Program Themes - January 2010
With the coming of the New Year comes new monthly-themed units for all Early Foundations® curriculum programs. Below is a sampling of activities that your child may experience in the month of January.
For infants, the theme is “Winter Tunnels”. Sample activities include:
- Library & Literacy: Featured Books: How Much Is That Doggie in the Window? by Iza Trapani; The Itsy Bitsy Spider, by Iza Trapani
- Language Development: Vocabulary words that describe emotions, colors, foods, day and night
- Science & Sensory: Winter tunnel exploration
For Toddlers, the theme is “In My Imagination”. Sample activities include:
- Library & Literacy: Photo Card Stories; Featured Books: Five Little Ducks, by Child’s Play; This Old Man, by Child’s Play
- Creative Arts: Finger Prints
- Science & Sensory: Water exploration with tools to scoop and pour
- Dramatic Play: Lights! Camera! Action!
For Discovery Preschool, the theme is “Things That Go”. Sample activities include:
- Library & Literacy: Transportation Photo Cards; Featured Book: Freight Train, by Donald Crews
- Creative Arts: Collages and Puffy Paints
- Science & Sensory: Ramps, Balls & Cars – experimenting with building ramps
- Dramatic Play: Train Ride
- Math & Manipulatives: Shape identification with puzzle cards and wooden puzzles
For Preschool, the theme is “My Imagination”. Sample activities include:
- Library & Literacy: Opposites Booklets, Dinosaur Photo Cards; Featured Book: Dinosaur Roar! By Paul & Henrietta Strickland
- Creative Arts: Play Dough Explorations
- Science & Sensory: Dinosaur Dig
- Dramatic Play: Dinosaur Land
- Math & Manipulatives: Dinosaur Habitats
For Prekindergarten, the theme is “Dinosaurs”. Sample activities include:
- Library & Literacy: Fishing Game, Dinosaur Books and Photo Cards, Letter K Collages; Featured Book: Dinosaur Roar! By Paul & Henrietta Strickland
- Creative Exploration: Puppet-Theatre Creation, Sponge Painting
- Science and Sensory: Soil and Glue Fossils and Dinosaur Dig
- Math & Manipulatives: Shape Tracings, Racing Game, Estimation Jar, and Paper-Shape Puzzles
