Three Questions with…Megan Riede
We were able to pull back the curriculum curtain and sit down with one of our highly regarded experts on education. Megan Riede leads the team that authors the Knowledge Beginnings curriculum and her deep experience and unending passion are evident throughout everything the kids do while they are with us.
What is your current position at Knowledge Universe?
I am the Director, Program Development with Knowledge Universe. I oversee the curriculum development for all of the education curriculum programs (core and enrichment programs) taught within Knowledge Beginnings, CCLC, and now The Grove School. Additionally, I support the training of the bilingual teachers dedicated to our Bilingual Mandarin Immersion Program and partner with our Singapore business to develop the Mandarin Curriculum as needed for Knowledge Beginnings.
What does your background look like and how has it helped you in your current position?
I have been working specifically in the education space for over 14 years. I hold a BA in Elementary Education from the University of Arizona and taught 3rd grade for six years in the California Public School System (Bay Area native). Before my current position, I spent 5 years as a Producer at Leapfrog in Emeryville, CA. developing interactive toys for children ages 3 to 6. I have been with Knowledge Universe for 4 years (as of November 15, 2009)
What do you love most about your work?
What excites me the most about my work is the opportunity to impact so many children’s lives through the curriculum and programs we offer within our facilities as well as our other lines of business.
Knowledge Universe brings together all of the key pieces for a successful education – innovative environment, research based curriculum, highly qualified teachers, and a family/community based mission. In my experience, I have not participated in a system that enabled all of these facets to work in concert. It is thrilling to be a part of this orchestration and build content that will enable success for children, from their earliest years through their high school career.
